Blog 6 due Monday 09/26

A scientist is observing a cell under a microscope. The cell is green in color, and has a cell membrane and cell wall. There are some spots that resemble ribosomes as well. Can the scientist determine the type of cell? If yes,what type of cell is the scientist observing?if no, why not?

  2. The scientist can determine the type of cell. He is observing a plant cell. There are two major types of cells: the animal cell and the plant cell. In this case, by observing that the cell has a cell wall, the scientist can conclude that the cell under the microscope is a plant cell, because only a plant cell has a cell wall and a cell membrane, unlike the animal cell which has a cell membrane but not a cell wall.
    Also, the fact that the cell is green in color also contributes to the cell's being a plant cell.

  3. Yes the scientist can determine what type of cell it is, and it is a plant cell. You can tell the scientist is observing a plant cell, because a plant cell has a cell wall as well as a cell membrane, but on the other hand an animal cell only has a cell membrane.

  4. The scientists would definitely be able to determine what kind of cell it is because a plant cell and an animal cell have differences. An animal cell does not have a cell wall and it is definitely not green. This is not in the information, but plant cells have larger vacuoles than animal cells. Using the information that it is green and has a cell wall the scientists can conclude it is a plant cell.

  6. The scientist would be able to determine what type of cell it is. He is observing a plant cell because only a plant cell has a cell wall and a cell membrane, as opposed to an animal cell that only has a cell membrane. The fact that the cell color is green also shows that it is a plant cell.

  7. The scientist would be able to determine what type of cell it is, due to a few things he is looking at. First, the fact that he can see the cell wall and the cell membrane draws conclusions that it is a plant cell, because animal cells don't have cell walls. Second, the green color of the cell can also determine what type of cell it is. The ribosomes in the cell wouldn't really help, because both animal and plant cells have them.

Yes the scientist would be able to determine what type of cell it is because beyond size, the main structural differences between plant and animal cells lie in a few additional structures found in animal cells. These structures include: chloroplasts, the cell wall, and vacuoles. Plant cells has the presence of a rigid cell wall surrounding the cell membrane. This wall can range from 0.1 to 10 micrometers thick and is composed of fats and sugars. The tough wall gives added stability and protection to the plant cell.

  9. The cell the scientist is observing is a plant cell. The cell beig green is the result of clorofill which give the cells their color. Also the cell wall is only found in plant cells. These two characteristics are enough to identify the cell as a plant cell.

It is green and also consists of a cell wall and cell membrane. cell membrane - is a thin layer of protein and fat that surrounds the cell, but is inside the cell wall. The cell membrane is semipermeable, allowing some substances to pass into the cell and blocking others. cell wall - is a thick, rigid membrane that surrounds a plant cell. This layer of cellulose fiber gives the cell most of its support and structure. The cell wall also bonds with other cell walls to form the structure of the plant. The plant cell only consists of these two.

  11. The scientist can determine the type of cell he is observing. He is observing a plant cell. The plant cell consists of a cell membrane and a cell wall, which makes up the structure and support the cell. The plant cell also contains ribosomes that aid in the process of protein synthesis.

  12. The scientist can determine the cell. Theres two types of cells, animal cell and plant cell. This cell is a plant cell because its green and has a cell wall, which an animal cell doesnt.
